After work I decided to make a Target run for snacks and then stop for some protein at my local natural foods community store. We were in the middle of a snowstorm, with a layer of ice underneath it all. I didn’t think it was a big deal, I had an AWD SUV, and being a seasoned winter driver in Minnesota, I knew how to take precautions. I like to take advantage of bad weather, because for me, there’s usually no one out on the roads, and even less people out shopping. Since I’m neurodivergent, it also means having to feel less anxiety in the stores. I do what I can to protect myself, but being Extrasensory proves to be a challenge as I will assess my entire environment while out and about in order to gage where I go and what I do. The less people that are out, the less anxiety I seem to have.

The drive today actually ended up being very stressful and my Spirit team advised why. Roads are energetic conduits for the collective. If someone drives every day to and from their same job month after month, and dislikes their job to even becoming resentful, it will create a trail of negative energy that the rest of the collective has to drive through. Imagine being at a city dump, and the smell of all that garbage. Now imagine having to walk through that garbage pile day after day. Sounds gross, doesn’t it? That’s essentially what happens during all of these mad rush hours that take place in large congested cities. If the traffic jams are unending, then it’s like adding fuel to the fire of the collective energetic toxicity that builds up on the highways and streets. People keep driving through that “dump” of negative energy day after day.

In my case, people have been collectively upset about our weather where I live. We’ve been hit with snowstorm after snowstorm, and this winter has been honestly brutal. 2023 has us already sitting in the top 10 chart of most recorded snow, with a chance to break the all time high with this next round of snow coming up this week. Even our local weatherman has been expressing his own resentment while on the air. It’s just been a long, hard winter. But today, I wasn’t about to let the weather stop me from getting a few groceries. I’ve been working from home for quite a few years now and getting out of the house can be therapeutic for me.

Instead, there was a lot of people trying to get home safely for the weekend, and a lot of angry drivers. There was also a lot of police and emergency vehicles out, snowplows, and road flares left over from an accident that happened long before I reached that section of the road. Impatient people passed me as I was driving at a good but cautious pace, having intuitively felt my car shake, knowing and feeling the ice underneath. Those who passed me fishtailed and almost ended up in what we call the “toolies”… basically it’s another word for the ditch. Or maybe someone ended up in a tulip patch and that’s the origination of our local slang — I may never know.

Even I managed to slide as I took my exit to make my way across Minnesota’s tallest bridge. My natural foods store closed early due to weather and I was immediately bummed. Out of all the places I shop, this one has a great vibe and I love the employees. It wasn’t until I was parked at my “Plan B” at Aldi’s that I put on my protective oil. My anxiety kicked in, and I knew I was not putting down what I was picking up from the collective. This trip was definitely not in my favor today; however, had it not been for the helpful tips below that I generally use, I’m certain I would have felt an even greater amount of anxiety.

First, when deciding to drive anywhere, assess if you even need to go. Gage the collective energy. What's happening astrologically? What time of day will you be driving? Is it a weekday or weekend? If you’re going for groceries, are you going on a weekend when it’s most congested, or are you going on a quiet weekday morning when most people are already at work? Is it a holiday? This will help you assess the energy and evaluate what is potentially out there if you need to get out on the road.

Prepare yourself. Bring crystals. Protective jewelry. Oils. Memorize your favorite mantras. Protective herb packets. These are all things that are tangible that can help protect your energy while driving. I always keep a protective herbal bag in my car.

Hydrate. Yes hydrate. Water amplifies energy, so you want to drink water to amplify your own energy as you navigate thru any negative collective energy out on the road. Just be mindful that if you are in a bad mood, it will only be amplified. So choose your mood wisely. Saying mantras and expressing gratitude can help.

Expand that solar plexus. Create a yellow bubble around you. Keep it expanded until you are back home in your own environment. The solar plexus acts as another barrier, akin to your aura, in order to deflect unwanted negative energy.

Protect your vehicle. Imagine protective selenite or satin spar as clear see-through sheets covering your vehicle and black obsidian and black tourmaline gridding those sheets together - kind of like the lead in stained glass. It’s a protective barrier that does not allow negative energy to penetrate into your environment — your vehicle. I also love to add protective shields surrounding my car, looking similar to those of what a Viking warrior would use.

Protective mirrors also help. You can imagine them as being placed on your front and rear bumpers. Got someone driving aggressively right on your tail? Place an imaginary mirror on that rear bumper and instantly deflect back to them their own anger or anxiety. Why should you feel any of their hostility? With practice, you should see them instantly back off.

Phone a friend. I often call my cousin when driving and if I feel anxious. Make sure it’s hands-free and you are following your state guidelines when talking on a cell phone. Talking with someone who you can trust and knows you’re experiencing anxiety is a great way to help you focus on driving and the conversation, instead of feeling the collective energetic garbage trails on the road.

Play music! High vibrational music always lifts the mood and stimulates dopamine in the brain. And when your brain has that “feel good & warm fuzzies” sensation activated, someone else’s energetic trash won’t even phase you. I love to listen to classical, polka, and traditional Irish music.

Speaking of dopamine, crying is amazing for that. Did you know that dopamine can even be measured in your tears when released? When is the last time you let yourself cry in the car and just let it all out? One time, I was filled with anxiety because I had a doctor appointment, so I called my cousin to chat while driving. The anxiety would not release when talking, and I really felt I needed a good cry. I told her I’d call her back and when I hung up, the tears unleashed and I just bawled. It was exactly what I needed! I felt no further anxiety while driving and walked into that appointment anxiety-free. Dopamine to the rescue!

Birds and other animals can be talismans when we are driving. Always keep your eyes on the road, but pay attention to any animals that appear out of nowhere. Is an eagle flying overhead? Or maybe a deer is crossing the road, bringing attention to the need for self-care. Perhaps a turtle is crossing the road to get to a pond. Take notice and look them up online for their spiritual meanings when you’re parked safely or reached your destination. Animals are powerful creatures who bring their own medicine and wisdom. Pay attention to what they say during your journeys.

Although this is obvious, the weather dictates how we drive. Water is again an amplifier of energy. If you are driving in a rainstorm with high winds, and it was something you were not prepared for, ask yourself if there truly is a need to be out. The collective energy will be amplified and it’s hard to argue with that. Instead, slow down and use gratitude to help you through. When we are grateful, it helps create a clearer path that is abundant with smooth sailing for your destination. The same goes for snowstorms. Rain is also very cleansing. So yes, those roads do get energetically cleansed once in a while by the rain and thus the collective toxicity from the morning commute is not as amplified. But it can build back up during long periods of drought or no moisture.

Essentially, you want to raise your vibration and protect yourself as much as possible so as to avoid absorbing the toxic energy from the morning and evening commute, or wherever you happen to be driving to. If everyone did this, there might be less accidents, and more gratitude felt during the daily drive.
